‘We have been impressed’

By Testimonials

“We are only 8 months into our relationship with Barker Brooks, but even from the pitch stage we have been impressed with their enthusiasm for our Journal and proactivity in coming to us with ideas and suggestions. They have already made a decent start in terms of advertising sales, and thus far they have been very good at communicating internally with various stakeholders here at OUP and respectful of the existing relationships we have with our authors and editorial board.”

Growing With The Business

By News

We really like promoting our own people. Seeing someone join the business, grow into their role, begin to take on more responsibility and actively start to give something of substance back is one of the most rewarding things about being involved here. When people deserve a promotion, it’s a pleasure to be able to oblige. The latest people to step up have been Alex Gray and Paul Bunce. Alex joined us as a salesperson, but it soon became clear that he had a broad commercial perspective and business acumen that could be put to better use – so rather than concentrating on a particular product, Alex has been working for some time now as our Head of Business Development. As you might expect, this involves getting out into the market, finding new opportunities, building new client relationships – in short, driving the future growth of the company. He’s already brought a couple of notable new clients on board, and is deeply involved in several other prospective new ventures. Paul, meanwhile, has impressed us so much with his drive and commitment that we’ve made him sales manager. It’s his job to oversee the sales team, monitoring, motivating, setting targets, shooting trouble and generally providing the oxygen that keeps the heart of the company beating. Paul’s first few weeks in his new role have been very successful, so let’s hope that’s a sign of things to come.

The Cream Of The Country

It’s shaping up to be another record year at the Yorkshire Legal Awards, taking place this year on 16 October at New Dock Hall in Leeds. With just over a fortnight left for nominations to be made, we’ve once again been seriously impressed with the quantity and quality of entries we’ve received. The entries represent the breadth and depth of the legal community in Yorkshire, from trainees to managing partners, from boutique niche firms to barristers’ chambers – and they all tell their own impressive and inspiring stories. While we don’t have any input in the judging process itself, on the strength of what we’ve seen so far we can certainly say that there are going to be some very worthy winners in 2014. Nevertheless, we’d urge anyone who hasn’t got round to entering to do so all the same: even if you think you have no chance of winning, the single biggest thing you can do to help your chances is to put a nomination in! A full list of categories and an online entry form are available here. Tickets for the evening are also starting to sell swiftly. To guarantee you can join in with the celebrations on 16 October you can get them by calling Paul Bunce on 01423 851150.

Access All Areas With The League Managers’ Association

By News, Uncategorized

Needless to say we’re all grown-up professionals here at BB, but every so often we find ourselves working on a project that brings out our inner-schoolchild.

That was very definitely the case when we met up with the League Managers Association  a little while ago. (That’s ‘League’ as in ‘Football League’, in case you’re not familiar with them – the LMA is the official body representing all past and present league managers, from Sir Alex Ferguson to Jose Mourinho.)

Keeping a dispassionate business head on our shoulders wasn’t totally straightforward at our first meeting down at the stunning new FA headquarters at St George’s Park in Staffordshire, where the LMA are based. Boasting everything from state of the art fitness and spa facilities to an indoor grass pitch of the same dimensions as the one at Wembley and even an on-site Hilton hotel, St George’s Park is also covered with footballing memorabilia. Your eyes can’t help but wander the walls. That said, we had something very interesting to discuss.

The LMA are a proactive organisation who are keen to explore possible partnerships with corporate firms, and they offer unique, money-can’t-buy experiences in return. Would you like Harry Redknapp to oversee a 5-a-side tournament at FA HQ for firms you invite, hosting a private dinner and presenting the prizes at the end of the day? Or Arsene Wenger to explain statistical modelling to some of your top executives? That’s the kind of thing that can be arranged.

The LMA enjoy working with firms to craft something unforgettable. We’ve agreed that we’ll work with them to bring them together with prospective partners for major sponsorship arrangements, as well as selling tickets for a range of unique LMA events (Wembley boxes, annual dinners etc) with access to the managers themselves. We think as far as partnerships go, this is in another league entirely. Why not give us a call to find out more?

“I attended the PI Awards dinner last night and was delighted to be a winner. However, my reason for writing is to congratulate you and your team on the smooth and effective management of the event which clearly delivered. It was my second year and I can see that it has enduring value. I attend several “black tie” events and almost all are flabby affairs – drawn out and lacking in focus.”

“Ideal partner for my clients’

By Testimonials

“I have worked with Barker Brooks for a number of years particularly in relation to their work with the NAPF and STEP. Unlike other contract publishers Barker Brooks undertake to understand the industries and communities they work for and in. This enables them to deliver intelligence and trustworthy solutions to advertisers. Aside from that they are great to get on with and helpful, which makes them an ideal partner for my clients.”

– Will Fearnley-Whittingstall, Fundamental Media UK

‘I would highly recommend’

By Testimonials

“I have worked with Barker Brooks for a number of years now to book event sponsorship and publication advertising across the NAPF portfolio. I have always found them to be very efficient in answering all my queries in a timely and detailed manner. They regularly keep me informed of any relevant opportunities and provide us with all the details we need to make an informed decision. I would highly recommend the services of Barker Brooks as an intermediary based on my experience with them.”

‘Consistently impressed’

By Testimonials

“As an asset manager operating in the investment industry for many years, despite some significant change in our industry, I have been consistently impressed by the professionalism and diligence shown by Barker Brooks Communications in their support of the NAPF, and interaction with industry stakeholders.

The account manager that has been dedicated to my firm’s needs has displayed good knowledge of my business needs, and has delivered an efficient and effective solution for me: I would certainly recommend the firm to prospective new clients.”

– Simon Males: Managing Director, Pramerica Investment Management Limited

‘Provided a high level of service’

By Testimonials

“I am loath to write testimonials owing to the position and reputation of my clients as market-leaders. However, it gives me pleasure to make an exception regarding Barker Brooks. One of the problems with the market is the presence of dubious and even charlatan sales and publishing houses, let alone the usual lesser quality and ability. Barker Brooks have always had a consistency of personnel, who have provided a high level of service, proactive sales and respectful understanding of market and market conditions.

This is not just unusual but actually rare, so gives the buyers confidence and allows the development of a relationship based on trust and mutual respect which benefits all parties – client, agency, sales house and publisher.”

– Tim Eldridge: Managing Director, Eldridge Ranger Advertising
